Literature Text

It was another Lazy afternoon for James Maslow. He stretched along the couch with Fox stretched on his chest being just as lazy as him. The clock had just struck 12 p.m and James let out a huge yawn. As he moved Fox raised his head and gave James a tired grumpy look.

“I’m sorry did I disturb your beauty rest?” James laughed.

He stroked behind the sleepy dogs ear making Fox forgive him.  James Moved Fox as he went to go grab the mail that had arrived an hour earlier. He walked out into the beautiful sunshine, but he felt that the temperature was already rising. So he quickly grabbed the mail, and flew back inside the cool house. He went through the mail grumbling.

“Bill… Bill… Junk… Bi-.” He stopped.

He threw the rest of the mail on the kitchen table keeping a very important letter in his hand. It was a letter from his baby sister. Due to everything that happened within the past few years it seemed like he had seen less and less of his best friend. He felt terrible not being there at her graduation, or missing her senior prom. He even missed all of her Band competitions. But what was strange is she usually called him, or texted him when she wanted to talk.

He quickly opened the letter hoping it wasn’t anything too serious. But to his dismay it was the worse news.

“Dear James,

I’m sorry I never told you about this sooner, but mom didn’t want you to worry. She went to the doctor back in March because she saw blood like if she was on her period. You and I both know that she hasn’t had her period for some time now.  The doctor checked her out, and her Ovaries had started to deteriorate and her Uterus had been filling with blood. The doctor told her that she was luck because if she had waited too long it could have become cancerous. Her surgery is next week, and if you aren’t too busy she wants to see you before she goes in.

Love you always,

Janelle.”

James sat on the couch for a moment staring at what he had just read. He couldn’t believe that this was happening. So he called up his agent, and told him to cancel any auditions because of a family emergency. He packed his bags, and Fox and left on the first flight out to Pennsylvania. He texted Janelle saying he got her letter and is on his way. He sat on the plain and all he could think about was his mom, but then a horrible thought struck him. Janelle probably told Colleen what had happened, and she will probably be at the hospital with Janelle. Oh crap. He hadn’t seen or talked to Colleen since they had broken up two years ago. What would he say to her? Could he even hold a conversation with her? Then he started having a flashback of the break up.

---Two Years Ago---

James was on the road with the guys because it was their Better with you summer tour. Colleen and James had been dating since before he left for Big Time Rush, and they had been friends for years before. He asked Colleen to come to a dance with him because he didn’t have a date and he didn’t want to be alone. When they danced together something had clicked with the both of them, and they thought it was meant to be. But nothing was ever meant to be. One day he got a text from Colleen saying that they needed to talk. He thought it wasn’t good but nothing prepared him for what was about to happen. So he decided to call her.

“Hello.” She answered.

“Hey what’s up? Are you okay?” James asked.

“Yeah I’m fine…”

“You don’t sound fine.”

“James… I got accepted into Wilkes University.”

“That’s great!”

“Yeah it is, but this means I’m staying on campus so you won’t see me when you get back. You might never see me.”

“We barely see each other as it is!”

“I know.” Her voice shook.

“Colleen. You didn’t call me to tell me just to tell me you got accepted did you?” James’s voice softened.

He knew what was happening now.

“I can’t lie to you. I called you because… Because.” Colleen’s voice choked.

“You called me because this relationship is getting harder to maintain, and you don’t think we can continue.”

“Y-yeah. I just… Believe me I don’t want to but-!”

"Colleen. I understand. We both knew this was going to happen.” He paused for a moment. “Listen you go to college and earn your degree to open your dog kennel.”

“But-.”

“There are no buts. Look you need to focus on your up-coming career, and I need to focus on my career.”

There was an unsettling silence that came over the phone. James was about to say something but Colleen spoke first

“So does this mean we are over?” She asked.

“Yeah… I guess we are.”

“Well. Good luck with your career then James.”

“Yeah. Same to you.”

“Bye.”

“Bye.”

Then that ended the conversation, and a relationship.

--- End of Flashback---

James snapped out of his trance when the flight captain came over the loud speaker telling everyone they would be landing soon. He looked out the window to see the city of Philadelphia below him. James sat back in the seat and sighed.

“This is not going to be easy.” he thought.
